India-Pakistan tensions: Amritsar airport closed, schools also closed

May 08, Kathmandu- There is tension on the India-Pakistan international border after India's 'Operation Sindoor' against Pakistan. People in the border areas in Punjab are also worried. On Wednesday night at around 1:45 am, explosions were heard at three places in Amritsar. After this, the district administration and police administration took immediate action and imposed a blackout in the entire district.

Officials have appealed to the public not to panic. The terminal at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar was completely evacuated and blacked out. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh said that noise was heard but no untoward incident was reported so far. Air Force aircraft were continuously engaged in their operations. Schools in border districts will remain closed on Thursday as well.

Seeing the increasing movement at the border, people from many villages have started leaving their homes as a precaution and moving to safer places. Residents of Muharjamsher and Mansa, border villages in Fazilka, are loading their valuables and household goods onto tractor-trolleys and moving them out of the villages. People have taken their livestock and essentials with them. The district administration has not yet issued any official order to evacuate the villages.

But people themselves have started taking this step as a precaution. Locals say that there is a constant increase in activity from across the border and that this has created an atmosphere of fear. Some villagers also said that suspicious activities were seen on the border at night. The work is being done in coordination with the security agencies and the Fazilka district administration has asked people not to pay attention to rumors.
