May 08, Kathmandu- 469 Nepalese who had reached Saudi Arabia for foreign employment have been stranded. They have been stranded after a company called Sendan International Company Limited in Jubail city, Saudi Arabia, closed down.
Most of those stranded are Nepali workers who have worked for the company for more than two years.
According to Kabiraj Upreti, a labor counselor at the Nepali Embassy, 469 victims have applied to the embassy 20 days ago to be rescued after they were stranded due to the closure of their companies.
Following a written request to the embassy, the embassy contacted the concerned company and called for immediate rescue of the stranded Nepalese.
In addition, 226 of the victims have submitted a written request for repatriation and 243 have requested for local transfer to the concerned company if they find work.
Upreti said that the Saudi government has temporarily suspended the exit visa process, which has created additional problems for repatriation.
He also said that the embassy is working with the Saudi government to cooperate with the relevant companies and labor agencies to repatriate Nepalis stranded in closed companies.
He said that the stranded Nepalis came to Saudi Arabia through Felicity International Employment Agency Pvt. Ltd. Manpower in Nepal.
They are scattered in different cities of Saudi Arabia. They have not received their salaries for two to nine months.
He said that most of the workers are laborers. He also said that the company is working to provide the services and facilities that the stranded Nepalis should receive and to repatriate as many affected Nepalis as possible.
Similarly, according to Upreti, 11 Nepalis who are in the Riyadh shelter have been stranded due to various reasons. The process of exit visas has been taken forward for them to return home. The embassy in Riyadh has been making arrangements for their food and accommodation.
Nepali Ambassador Dr. Naresh Prasad Dhakal said that it is sad that Nepalis who came to Saudi Arabia to work and provide happiness to their families have been stranded due to the closure of the company they work for.
Dhakal also informed that he and the Nepali embassy team are coordinating with the concerned companies and the Saudi government to rescue the stranded Nepalese.
