Wire website, which has been critical of the government, is blocked across India

May 09, Kathmandu- The Indian government has blocked the website ‘The Wire.in’ across the country. The Wire wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), ‘The Indian government has blocked the website thewire.in across the country.’

According to The Wire, the internet service providers said that this step was taken in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The Wire said the move violated constitutionally guaranteed rights to press freedom.

"We oppose this 'blatant censorship', especially at a time when fair, truthful and rational journalism is essential for India," The Wire said.

“We are taking all necessary legal steps against this arbitrary and vague order,” The Wire said.
