May 12, Kathmandu- India reopened 32 airports on Monday after a weekend ceasefire ended the worst fighting with neighboring Pakistan since 1999.
According to the Airports Authority of India, 32 airports from Srinagar in Indian-administered Kashmir to Bhuj in the western state of Gujarat are now open for civilian operations “with immediate effect.”
The airports were closed last week after four days of heavy fighting between India and Pakistan. The closures had raised global concerns that the fighting between the two countries could escalate into a full-scale war.
Major Indian airline IndiGo said it would “gradually resume operations on previously closed routes.” The ceasefire was announced on Saturday, but both sides quickly accused each other of violating it.
However, both India and Pakistan said on Monday that the border areas were calm.
