China Lifts Ban On Boeing After Trade Talks With US

May 13, Kathmandu- China has lifted a ban on domestic airlines accepting new Boeing planes, a report said, after Beijing and Washington agreed to temporarily lower tariffs, easing a major tension in their trade war.

Last month, the U.S. planemaker confirmed that Chinese airlines had stopped accepting deliveries of the new planes due to the heavy tariffs imposed by both sides.

But on Tuesday, Chinese officials began telling domestic carriers that they could resume orders for U.S.-made planes, according to Bloomberg News.

Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The news comes after the two countries announced on Monday that they would reduce tariffs for 90 days and continue talks.

Washington imposed new tariffs of 145 percent on many imports from China, while Beijing responded with a 125 percent tariff on U.S. goods.

Monday’s announcement, following talks in Geneva, saw the United States reduce its tariffs to 30 percent and China reduce its own to 10 percent.

U.S. President Donald Trump has called the results a “complete renegotiation” and said talks with his counterpart Xi Jinping could happen soon.

The company plans to supply about 50 aircraft to China by 2025, CEO Kelly Ortberg said last month.

China’s Foreign Ministry also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
