Folk Singer Lama Passes Away

May 16, Kathmandu- Folk singer Amar Lama has passed away. He passed away a few days ago at the age of 47, according to his family members.

He was brought to Kathmandu for treatment after suffering from a stomach ailment. He died on the way home (Kailali) after he could not get treatment in Kathmandu.

Born in Deval (Ghangal), Badikedar Rural Municipality-3, Doti, the singer Lama was currently living in Khanidanda, Chure Rural Municipality, Kailali. Lama, who made his musical debut with the song album titled ‘Paharako Phool’ while studying in school, has released dozens of song albums.

Along with singing, Lama was equally active in theater and public speaking. Lama, who was equally proficient in playing musical instruments including flute, madal, harmonium, used to be the center of attraction at fairs and festivals held in the far west.

Lama, who entered the media sector from Mahakali FM in Mahendranagar, worked as a station manager at Shaileshwari FM in Doti.

Sudurpaschim Pragya Pratishthan Vice Chancellor Dr. TN Joshi paid tribute to Lama by draped the national flag on his mortal remains. Lama is survived by two wives, two sons and two daughters.
