May 16, Kathmandu- Nepal has reached the third stage of the Asian region qualifying tournament of the ICC Women's T20 Cricket World Cup.
Nepal advanced to the Super 3 after the match between Hong Kong and Bahrain, which was scheduled for Friday, was canceled due to rain. Despite having the same 5 points as Hong Kong, Nepal advanced to the next round based on winning more matches as per ICC rules. Even in run rate, Nepal was behind Hong Kong.
Nepal had won 2 matches in the group stage. Nepal had defeated Bahrain in both matches. In the other match, they had shared points with Hong Kong. In the other match, Nepal had lost by 7 wickets.
Hong Kong had won only one match against Nepal, but the remaining matches were forced to share points as rain prevented them from playing.
The nine teams participating in the Asian qualifiers were divided into three groups. Thailand from Group 'A' and UAE from Group 'B' have reached the Super-3. Nepal has qualified for the third round from Group 'C'. Now, the winners of all three groups will compete in the Super-3.
Nepal will play UAE in its first match of the Super-3 on Monday. The next match will be against Thailand on Tuesday. The top two teams in the group will play the Global qualifiers. Of the 10 teams participating in the Global qualifiers, only Bangladesh, USA and Scotland have secured their places so far.
In the global qualifiers, two teams each from Asia, Europe, and Africa, and one team from Asia Pacific are yet to be decided. Four teams from the global qualifiers will play in the 2026 World Cup.
