Three Ward Chairmen Reject KTM Mayor Balen's Order

May 18, Kathmandu- Three ward chairmen of Kathmandu Metropolitan City have rejected the responsibility given by Mayor Balen Shah.

They have refused to take the responsibility, saying that the executive has not made a decision. In a joint petition to the mayor, they have said that it is not appropriate to remain in the post of coordinator of the thematic committee when the assigned responsibilities have not been approved by the executive meeting.

Balen has appointed Ward No. 30 Chairman Dal Bahadur Karki as the coordinator of the Good Governance Committee, Ward No. 5 Chairman Birendra Prajapati as the Information Technology Committee, and Ward No. 24 Chairman Binod Rajbhandari as the coordinator of the Heritage and Tourism Committee, refusing to take up the responsibility. The three have submitted a collective petition to Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol and the Chief Administrative Officer.

"Through our letter dated 2082.02.01, we, the members of the Municipal Executive, have been informed of the responsibilities of the coordinator of the thematic committee as per Rule 15 Sub-rule (1) of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Municipal Executive (Work Performance Regulations, 2074 BS), and since the specified responsibilities have not been approved by the Executive Meeting, we request the Mayor to jointly inform us of the responsibilities assigned to him and not to continue in the position of coordinator of the thematic committee," they wrote.
