May 20, Kathmandu- Leaders from Britain, Canada, and France have issued strong warnings that they may impose sanctions on Israel if it does not lift its aid embargo to Gaza, as the ongoing military offensive continues, Reuters reported.
The Israeli army announced on Friday that it has launched a new military campaign in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday that Israel intends to occupy all parts of Gaza. International experts have expressed concerns that the region is approaching a famine due to the ongoing conflict.
In a joint statement, the UK government condemned Israel’s refusal to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, calling it "unacceptable" and a potential violation of international humanitarian law. The statement also emphasized opposition to expanding settlements in the West Bank and warned of possible further actions, including sanctions.
Responding to the international pressure, Netanyahu accused leaders in London, Ottawa, and Paris of encouraging atrocities by rewarding the recent massacre in Israel on October 7. He reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defense, vowing to continue fighting until victory is achieved.
Netanyahu also reiterated that Hamas must meet specific conditions, such as releasing prisoners and demilitarizing Gaza, to bring an end to the conflict.
