Governor Recommendation Committee Meeting Called For 4 PM

May 20, Kathmandu- The Governor Recommendation Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, has been scheduled to convene today at 4 p.m. The meeting follows a recent high-level discussion between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar.

This development comes after a postponement of the Cabinet meeting, which was delayed due to the absence of a new governor appointment. The postponement occurred because the recommendation committee had not yet met to finalize the appointment process.

Sources indicate that, following discussions between Oli and Deuba, an agreement has been reached to allocate the governorship to the Nepali Congress, aligning with broader political negotiations.

The committee includes outgoing Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari and economist Poshraj Pandey. These members replaced former members Bijayanath Bhattarai and Bishwa Poudel, who resigned from their positions. The resignations prompted the addition of the current members to the committee.

The current governor's term concluded on Chaitra 24, but the government has yet to appoint a successor, more than a month and a half after the term ended. According to the National Bank Act, the appointment and notification of a new governor should have been completed at least one month before the end of the current governor's term, underscoring the urgency of the ongoing discussions.

Political analysts suggest that the outcome of today's committee meeting could influence the upcoming appointment and impact the ongoing political dialogue regarding key state appointments.
