May 20, Kathmandu- The Armed Police Force has seized a large quantity of narcotics from Birgunj. The Armed Police Force has seized 81,490 pieces of Tramadol Hydrochloride tablets smuggled from India from Bhakuwa Checkpoint in Chhapakkaiya, Birgunj Metropolitan City-2. The value of the seized tablets is said to be more than 700,000 rupees in India.
The Armed Police Force (APF) had received information on Tuesday morning that a large quantity of narcotics was being smuggled into Nepal from Raxaul, India, through the Bhakuwa checkpoint in Chhapakkaiya. Based on this information, an Armed Police Force team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Bahadur Singh from the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 13 Battalion Headquarters, Parsa, reached the Bhakuwa checkpoint.
Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Singh said that two smugglers were crossing the Sirsia River at the Bhakuwa checkpoint and were heading towards Chhapakaiya carrying a carton filled with drugs on their heads. When they saw the Armed Police, both of them threw away the carton containing the drugs and fled.
He said that when the carton was opened, 81,490 pieces of the drug Tramadol hydrochloride tablets were recovered inside. The recovered drugs have been handed over to the District Police Office, Parsa for necessary action and a search for the smugglers is underway, informed Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Singh.
