Netanyahu Orders Increased Security At Israeli Missions Around The World

May 22, Kathmandu- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday he had ordered increased security measures at Israeli diplomatic missions around the world after a gunman shouting "Free Palestine" shot and killed two embassy employees outside the Jewish Museum in Washington.

“I have instructed to increase security at Israeli missions around the world and to increase the protection of state representatives,” he said. “We are witnessing the terrible cost of anti-Semitism and wild incitement against the State of Israel.”

On Wednesday night, a shooting occurred outside the Capitol Jewish Museum in downtown Washington, D.C., during a social event for young professionals and diplomatic staff.

A video clip circulating on social media shows a bearded young man wearing a jacket and white shirt shouting “Free, free Palestine” as he is led away by police.

According to Yechiel Leiter, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, the victims were a young couple who were planning to get married.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog said he was “shocked” by the deadly attack but that the two countries would “unite in defense of our people.” “This is a despicable act of hatred, anti-Semitism that took the lives of two young Israeli embassy employees,” he said. “The United States and Israel will unite in defense of our people and our shared values. Terror and hatred will not break us.”

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar also said he was “horrified” by the attack and vowed that Israel would not succumb to “terror.” "Especially at this time, Israeli representatives around the world are constantly facing high risks," he said, adding, "We are in close contact with American officials. Israel will not surrender to terror."
