May 22, Kathmandu- Indian media outlets have claimed that a Nepali citizen has been arrested on charges of working for Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). According to sources, the individual, identified as Asrul Mia Ansari, was detained during a police operation targeting an ISI sleeper cell in Delhi.
The operation, launched in early 2025, resulted in the apprehension of two suspects. The Delhi Police filed a chargesheet in court revealing these developments. Indian news agency Asian News International (ANI) reported that Ansari had travelled to Delhi on behalf of the ISI and was caught just as he was about to depart for Pakistan.
Ansari, who previously worked as a taxi driver in Qatar, allegedly met an ISI handler there before travelling to Pakistan for training. ANI quoted sources claiming that he received instruction from senior ISI officers and was subsequently sent to Delhi via Nepal as part of a covert operation involving multiple agencies, including central Indian authorities.
The report also highlighted security concerns, noting that several Nepali nationals accused of working for the ISI have previously been killed under mysterious circumstances.
The Delhi Police continue to investigate the case, and Ansari remains in Tihar Jail as authorities work to uncover details of the alleged espionage activities.
