KMC Launches Yoga Camp To Promote Health Awareness

May 23, Kathmandu- The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Health Department Office has initiated a yoga camp aimed at encouraging residents to practice yoga tailored to their health conditions. The program emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate yoga asanas and practices based on individual diseases, recognizing that not all yoga styles benefit every health issue.

The camp is part of the 'Arogya Jeevan' golden scheme and is conducted over five days at different locations across the city. The first camp commenced on Baisakh 21 in Ward No. 14, followed by subsequent sessions in Ward No. 12 on Baisakh 21, and in Ward No. 15 on Baisakh 30. The latest camp was held from Jestha 5 at the Dharahara premises and concluded on Friday. Future camps are scheduled in Ward No. 31 and Ward No. 23.

On the final day of each camp, participants underwent blood pressure and diabetes screenings, and were provided with free tonic medicines such as Triphala powder, Ashwagandha, Chyawanprash, Amalaki, and Mahanarayan oil, as shared by senior doctor Parbati Rawal.

Doctor inspector Manjushree Thakur highlighted that high blood pressure is a common concern among the general population. Following examinations, doctors offer guidance on managing diet, behavior, and lifestyle, emphasizing the connection between mental and physical health.

The program also involves training yoga instructors for ongoing classes in local wards and promoting physical exercise in open spaces with the help of exercise professionals. The overarching goal is to encourage proactive health practices, preventing illness, and reducing healthcare costs and mental stress for families.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City's initiative aims to foster a healthier community by emphasizing preventive care and holistic well-being.
