Why did the problem appear in eSewa?

May 23, Kathmandu- ESewa experienced a technical problem on Monday afternoon. Many users reported that they were unable to log in to the eSewa mobile app and website or that they were having problems making transactions even after logging in.

This issue has not only been discussed, commented on, and criticized by many on social media, but has also aroused the curiosity of many.

Some general public and users were worried that eSewa would be hacked.

eSewa, however, said that the problem was not due to a security issue but rather due to server and system upgrades.

"Nowadays, most of the companies in Nepal are using traditional-style databases. The same was true for eSewa", said a senior eSewa official, "but we have upgraded the system".

eSewa has introduced the world-famous Cassandra database.

Ravi Shakya, Chief Strategy Officer of Esewa, informed that this system will keep customer data safe in three data centers. Therefore, he says that eSewa's service will not be interrupted if there is a problem in any of these centers.

Shakya has said that people should not believe the misleading propaganda being spread about the future and security of eSewa due to technical problems seen during the upgrade.

He also said that extra vigilance will be taken to prevent such problems from arising during the ongoing upgrade.
