May 24, Kathmandu- Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has suggested that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resign on moral grounds. He believes that it would be appropriate for the Home Minister to resign on moral grounds after questions were raised over the visit visa issue.
Speaking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport, Koirala said, "Mr. Ramesh, I am clean on moral grounds, I resigned. Just form an investigation committee, and that will be done. That shows the moral status."
A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on Friday demanding the dismissal of Home Minister Lekhak. Advocate Madhu Chaulagain filed the writ petition in the Supreme Court on Friday. The Supreme Court will decide on Sunday whether to register the writ or not. The issue of the ‘connection’ of the gang that sends people abroad under the guise of visit visas in the settings of the Home Ministry itself is currently in the news.
The CIAA claims that it has been found that Nepalese travelling on visit visas have been extorted at least Rs 50,000 to Rs 300,000. The gang has been criticized for its 'connections' reaching as far as the Home Ministry, with Home Minister Lekhak also being involved in the act.
