May 24, Kathmandu- Six people, including the pilot, died when a small private plane crashed in San Diego, California, on Thursday morning. It is initially believed that the crash was caused by thick fog.
The Cessna 550 Citation went down around 3:47 a.m. local time in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood, striking a power line which then caught fire, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The aircraft caused extensive damage, with debris falling on approximately ten homes, leading to minor damages but no serious injuries on the ground.
Authorities reported that residents in the area were not seriously harmed. The NTSB has not yet determined the exact cause but noted that initial investigations revealed that runway lights and weather instruments at the nearby airport were not operational at the time. Additionally, the pilot did not send a distress call before the crash.
The agency stated that it may take weeks before a preliminary report is available as investigations continue. Meanwhile, Sound Talent Group issued a statement expressing deep condolences over Shapiro’s death.
