Nepal Police Promotes Sagarmatha Climber Kunjang Chopel Sherpa To Deputy Inspector Rank

May 25, Kathmandu- In a significant recognition of bravery and achievement, Kunjang Chopel Sherpa, a climber of Sagarmatha and a dedicated member of the Nepal Police, has been officially promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector of Police. The promotion was marked by the presentation of the rank insignia by Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa at the Police Headquarters on Sunday.

The decision to elevate Sherpa’s rank was made during the Policy Making Committee meeting held on Jestha 6, with a special promotion from her previous position as Assistant Inspector of Police. The move honors her exceptional feat of successfully summiting Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, and bringing pride to the Nepal Police organization.

Addressing the ceremony, IGP Thapa praised Sherpa’s remarkable achievement, highlighting how her successful climb has enhanced the organization’s reputation. He commended her indomitable courage and urged her to continue performing her duties with increased dedication and bravery. Thapa emphasized that with the promotion, Sherpa’s scope of responsibility and dignity within the police force would expand.

Deputy Inspector Sherpa reached the summit of Sagarmatha on Monday, Jestha 5, 2082, at 08:56 am. During her historic climb, she hoisted the national flag of Nepal, the Nepal Police flag, and a banner bearing the slogan “Let’s unite to end violence against women and girls” at the summit, symbolizing her commitment to national pride and social issues.

Sherpa’s achievement not only highlights her personal bravery but also exemplifies Nepal’s mountaineering prowess and the dedication of its police force.
