May 26, Kathmandu- A brother and sister of the same family have died in a fire caused by a cooking gas leak in Jayanagar, Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-5, Kapilvastu.

Parshuram Yadav's 24-year-old son Shiva Kumar Yadav and 18-year-old daughter Sonam Yadav died in the fire caused by a gas leak, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Mani Adhikari, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kapilvastu.

Both of them, who were seriously injured in the fire, were taken to the Bhairahawa Medical College for treatment. From there, Shivakumar died on the way to the Gorakhpur Medical College in India for further treatment, while Sonam died in Bhairahawa, according to the police.

According to doctors, 85 percent of Shivakumar's body and 75 percent of Sonam's body were burned.

According to the initial investigation into the incident, a gas leak occurred while connecting the regulator to the cylinder. Police say that a fire burning in the shed at the time spread to the kitchen, causing a major fire. The fire was brought under control with the help of the fire brigade and locals.
