Protecting the Himalayas is our common duty: Minister Pandey

May 27, Kathmandu- Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey has declared that the protection of the Himalayas is a common duty of all of us.

Addressing a program organized on Tuesday on the occasion of the Everest Summit Conference, Minister Pandey congratulated all the summiteers who have achieved success in climbing the mountain and pointed out the need to preserve Himalayan culture and keep the mountains safe for future generations.

Addressing the conference, Minister Pandey said, “We are not here just to congratulate those who have reached the summit of the world, but also to pay tribute to their courage, dedication and determination.”

He also expressed special respect for the Sherpa community, guides, rescue teams and all those who continuously serve in the Himalayan region. “Their dedication has made mountain journeys safer, more sensitive to nature and more meaningful,” Minister Pandey added.

Minister Pandey said that the government is working to promote mountaineering by prioritizing infrastructure, training and environmental protection. He also said that he is committed to improving the prosperity and living standards of the local community along with mountain tourism.

Describing the Himalayas as a bridge of civilization, culture and coexistence, Minister Pandey said, “These mountains are sacred, and it is our common responsibility to protect them.”

Noting that the future of the Himalayas is in danger due to climate change and global warming, he said, “Now is the time, we need to protect these mountains with caution, wisdom and respect.”

He expressed his belief that it will inspire the entire human society to renew its commitment to the mountains. During the conference, he also honored domestic and foreign mountaineers.
