May 29, Kathmandu- An employee of the Rajasthan state government in India has been arrested on suspicion of spying for Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI.
Shakur Khan Mangalyar, an employee of the state's employment department, was arrested by a joint team of the CID and intelligence agencies from his office in Jaisalmer.
Mangalyar is likely to be taken to Jaipur for further questioning. He is also suspected of having links with the Congress.
Authorities are also investigating suspected links between a senior Congress leader from the border region and Mangalyar.
However, security agencies have refused to comment on political connections.
Intelligence sources have revealed possible links between Mangalyar and an official at the Pakistani embassy, which suggests his links with the ISI.
Several people have already been arrested in Punjab and Haryana on charges of spying for Pakistan.
Mangaliyar worked as a personal assistant to a Congress functionary during the previous Congress-led state government.
According to Indian media, the move comes days after Operation Sindoor against state government employees.
Mangaliyar, who lives in Dhani, a village in Baroda, near the Pakistan border, had been under surveillance for several weeks.
Investigators said several Pakistani phone numbers were found on his mobile phone.
He has also admitted to visiting Pakistan at least seven times in recent years.
