Contempt Case Against Judge For Protesting At Maitighar

May 30, Kathmandu- The Supreme Court has initiated action against Khagendra Sunar, who protested at Maitighar in protest against the verdict of the Surkhet High Court.

The Supreme Court administration itself has registered a case against Sunar after raising objections. The case is being heard in the bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Nityanand Pandey.

Sunar had protested against the judge when the High Court Surkhet acquitted the defendants in the case of the murder of Nawaraj BK and his 5 friends, who had an inter-caste love affair in Rukum West, of the crime of caste discrimination.

The bench of Justices Somkant Mainali and Matrika Prasad Bhandari of the Surkhet High Court had upheld the sentences of all (23) people sentenced to life imprisonment by the district court. However, the charge of caste untouchability was not proven and the acquittal was given.
