May 30, Kathmandu- Discussions have commenced between Speaker Devraj Ghimire and the chief whips of the parties represented in Parliament to address the ongoing obstruction in the House. These talks are aimed at resolving the disruptions, scheduling discussions on the obstruction and the budget, and establishing a legislative timetable.
According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, Speaker Ghimire convened a meeting with the party’s chief whips today (Jesth 16) at 11 a.m. at the Speaker’s office in Singha Durbar, following disruptions in the parliament demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the visit visa controversy.
The purpose of these discussions is to determine a suitable time for debating the obstruction and the budget, as well as to plan the upcoming legislative agenda. Immediately after, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee has been scheduled at 12 noon.
Opposition parties, including the main opposition, CPN-Maoist Center, have been obstructing parliamentary proceedings, insisting on the resignation of Home Minister Lekhak, citing alleged involvement in the visit visa issue.
Despite the disruptions, opposition parties that have been allowed to present the budget have indicated their intention to continue their protest actions.
