May 30, Kathmandu- Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Friday in Hong Kong amid significant diplomatic engagements. The meeting took place while both ministers participated as observers in the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of an International Organization for Arbitration, at the invitation of Foreign Minister Wang.
During their discussion, the two leaders reviewed the longstanding Nepal-China relationship, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year. Minister Rana emphasized Nepal’s appreciation for China's support over the years, highlighting cooperation in economic development, social sectors, and technical fields.
She expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their continued assistance and cooperation, reaffirming Nepal’s commitment to the One-China policy and clarifying that Nepali territory will not be used against China.
Minister Rana also thanked China for its representation at the recent Sagarmatha Sambaad and discussed ongoing high-level visits, including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official visit to China last December. Both sides reviewed the implementation of agreements signed during these visits.
As part of the celebrations marking 70 years of diplomatic relations, Minister Rana extended an invitation to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang to visit Nepal. She also highlighted Nepal’s eagerness to welcome more Chinese tourists, especially as 2025 has been designated as "Visit Nepal Year" to celebrate the anniversary.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang congratulated Nepal on the successful conclusion of the Sagarmatha Dialogue and expressed China’s readiness to collaborate further with Nepal on climate change, environmental protection, and related issues. He assured continued Chinese support and indicated willingness to work with Nepal on establishing an international organization for mediation under Chinese coordination.
Wang also urged Nepal to implement agreements reached during Prime Minister Oli’s visit to China and accepted the invitation to visit Nepal at an appropriate time. He praised Nepal’s current diplomatic programs led by Minister Rana and extended a special invitation for Nepalese participation in the upcoming Global Women’s Leadership Forum, hosted by China.
Both leaders underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and international collaboration in the coming days.
