May 31, Kathmandu-On 31 May 2025, the newly constructed school building of Shree Mahendra Secondary School in Sanfebagar Municipality, Achham District, was formally handed over to the school management. The event was jointly officiated by Mr. Lalit Bahadur Kunwar, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Achham; Mr. Rajendra Bahadur Kunwar, Mayor of Sanfebagar Municipality; and Shri Suman Shekhar, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. This school infrastructure was developed with financial assistance from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ at a total cost of NPR 32.40 million. The facility includes classrooms, a laboratory, computer and staff rooms, administrative and principal's offices, a library, accounts section, and separate toilets for boys and girls, along with furniture and computers. Implemented as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) through the DCC Achham, the initiative supports over 400 students, of whom 65% are girls. Local leaders, educators, and community members lauded India’s developmental support, emphasizing the role of the new infrastructure in enhancing education in the region. Since 2003, India has undertaken over 573 HICDPs in Nepal, including 43 in Sudurpashchim Province, and has also gifted ambulances and school buses to various institutions. This project exemplifies the strong bilateral cooperation between India and Nepal in advancing community development and educational growth.
