Jun 06, Kathmandu - Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that the bill to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 BS should be finalized as soon as possible. Speaking at the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Home Minister Lekhak stressed that it should be passed quickly as it is a very sensitive issue.
"This is a very sensitive subject. Let's pass the bill as soon as possible. Let's start to end the suffering of the stateless citizens,'' said the Home Minister.
The meeting concluded discussions with the amending MPs on the Bill, 2081, drafted to amend the Citizenship Act, 2063. 85 different amendments were submitted to the bill by 46 MPs.
In the meeting, committee chairman Ramhari Khatiwada said that discussions with the amendment-making MPs have been completed and that discussions will be held with the chairperson and former chairperson of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and office bearers of organizations related to former Gorkha soldiers in the next meeting.
