Jun 07, Kathmandu - Police have arrested nine people with the banned drug brown sugar from Koshi Rural Municipality-1, Laukahi, Sunsari. A team jointly deployed from the Narcotics Control Bureau, Biratnagar, and the Area Police Office, Laukahi, arrested them with the brown sugar on Friday night, said Sunsari Police Chief SP Suman Kumar Timsina.
SP Timsina said that brown sugar was seized during a check and search of the suspects who were suspiciously coming to Nepal on foot and scooter after purchasing the drug from Birpur Bazaar in India. The arrested person is Ajay Chaudhary of Itahari Sub-metropolitan City-5. Drug brown sugar 2.47 grams has been recovered from him. 3.24 grams of brown sugar was seized from Himal Kumar Mandal and Karan Kumar Mandal of Koshi Rural Municipality-1. 1.40 grams of brown sugar was seized from Dayanand Kumar Yadav of Koshi Rural Municipality-2, SP Timsina said.
Similarly, 2.15 grams of brown sugar were recovered from the possession of Vivek Bishwokarma, a resident of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-17, who was arrested. 2.23 grams of brown sugar were recovered from the possession of Sangam Rai, a resident of Dharan-17, who was coming from India to Nepal on a scooter, and Simson Rai, a resident of Dharan-19, who was riding behind the scooter. 6.53 grams of brown sugar were recovered from the possession of Kaushal Kalikote, a resident of Barahrakshetra Municipality-7, who was riding on the scooter, and 4.79 grams of brown sugar were recovered from the possession of War Yakub Rai, who was riding behind the same scooter, SP Timsina said.
DSP Yograj Khatiwada of the District Police Office, Sunsari, said that all the arrested people have been taken into custody at the District Police Office, Sunsari, and further investigation is underway.
