Herbal Company Destroyed In Royalist Movement Struggling

Jun 09, Kathmandu- On the 15th of Chaitra last year, violence erupted during a royalist demonstration in the Tinkune area of Kathmandu, resulting in two fatalities and numerous injuries. The unrest also led to widespread destruction of public and private property, including damage to a Herbs Production & Processing Co. Ltd..

The company's administrative building was vandalized, and its production and laboratory facilities were completely destroyed by fire. Usha Rijal, acting general manager of the herb company, explained that as the company is engaged in farming, processing, production, and marketing, the disruption caused a halt in operations for nearly a month. She noted that the company's external branches continued work, and the central office handled product marketing during this period.

Within two months of the incident, the company resumed production. Rijal stated that assistance from the Ministry of Forest and Environment, along with the Federal Secretariat Construction and Management Office, facilitated the installation of glass in the administrative building. Additionally, the room with minimal damage in the production building was cleaned, allowing for immediate temporary production.

However, the fire completely destroyed the company's machinery, forcing employees to carry out all work manually. As a result, the company is currently operating at only 50 to 60 percent of its full capacity. Rijal emphasized the challenges faced in restoring full production and the ongoing efforts to recover from the damages inflicted during the violent demonstration.

The incident remains a significant reminder of the unrest's impact on local businesses and the community.
