Jun 10, Kathmandu - Nepal Police have rescued a Chinese tourist who had reached Gokyo Lake, located at an altitude of about 5,000 meters in Solukhumbu, saying, "I will commit suicide on my birthday."
A team from Bhrikutimandap, tourist police of Nepal Police, rescued the Chinese national safely. The 36-year-old Chinese tourist, named Qie Huang, was rescued by the police on Tuesday morning.
The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu had informed the tourist police and asked them to rescue Huang. Along with the embassy, a person named Pemba Sherpa also informed the police about the incident.
Huang had posted on social media on June 11 that he would commit suicide in Gokyo Lake on his 36th birthday. After that, his family in China learned about his condition. The family informed the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu and asked for his rescue.
The embassy then informed the tourist police. According to police sources, the embassy itself had arranged a high-altitude helicopter for the Nepal Police for the rescue. When the police reached the scene, the owner of the ‘Thanka Inn Hotel’ in Gokyo was trying to persuade him. But he refused to come even after the police who had gone to rescue him told him.
He had told the police that he planned to commit suicide on his birthday tomorrow at Gokyo Lake. According to police sources, after being persuaded for about half an hour, Huang was finally ready to come to Kathmandu.
He has now been rescued and brought to Kathmandu by helicopter. The tourist police, who are at Bhrikuti Mandap, are now preparing to hand him over to the embassy, the police have said.
