Jun 14, Kathmandu -The Government of India has gifted 40 ambulances to health institutions across 33 districts in Nepal, reaffirming its long-standing support for Nepal’s healthcare infrastructure. The ambulances were handed over during a coordinated ceremony held simultaneously at four locations: the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the Consulate General of India in Birgunj, and the Pension Paying Offices in Pokhara and Dharan.
A total of 22 ambulances were distributed in Kathmandu, while 7 each were handed over in Birgunj and Pokhara, and 4 in Dharan. The vehicles were presented by representatives of the Indian government, including Shri Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India, who personally handed over keys during the event in Kathmandu.
Local officials, mayors, chairpersons of municipalities and rural municipalities, political representatives, social workers, and beneficiaries from Bagmati, Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces attended the ceremony. The Deputy Chief of Mission emphasized that the ambulance donation is part of India's broader Nepal-India Development Partnership, aimed at supporting Nepal’s efforts to enhance public health services.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the continued Indian support and noted the positive impact the ambulances would have in improving accessibility to medical services, particularly in remote areas.
Since 1994, India has gifted a total of 1,049 ambulances to Nepal, in addition to other logistical support such as 300 school buses, 200 vehicles for election logistics in 2022, and 15 electric vehicles gifted in May 2025 to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the 'Sagarmatha Sambaad'.
This gesture reflects the deep-rooted ties and multi-sectoral development cooperation between the two countries, reinforcing the people-to-people connections and shared commitment to progress and wellbeing.
