Jun 15, Kathmandu - China is committed to supporting Iran. China made this commitment in the first talks held after the Israeli attack on Iran.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the commitment in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. China said it would "support Tehran in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests."
Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with his Iranian counterpart on the phone on Saturday to discuss the situation, the Global Times reported. According to the newspaper, Wang said that after Israel's attack on Iran, China immediately clarified its position. China also strongly condemned Israel for violating Iran's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
Wang also made it clear that China firmly opposes the brutal attacks targeting Iranian officials and killing civilians, and supports Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty, safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests, and protecting its people.
Meanwhile, Wang made it clear in a telephone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar that he opposed Israel's strong attack on Iran. Through this statement, China has clarified its diplomatic stance on the rising tensions in West Asia.
