Jun 20, Kathmandu - The Gwarko Overpass in Lalitpur, built to manage traffic congestion on the Kathmandu Valley Ring Road, has been inaugurated.
On Friday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli officially inaugurated the overpass during a program.
Gwarko is the first of the three major traffic jams along the Koteshwor to Kalanki Ring Road expansion project where an overpass has been constructed. The 6-meter-high and 455-meter-long overpass has a ramp of 180 meters on the right and 110 meters on the left. The ground clearance is 6 meters.
The overpass construction, which began in 2078 BS, was finally completed in 2082 BS after being repeatedly extended. The project, which was awarded the contract by Ashish-Samanantar JV for Rs 176.88 million, was completed almost a year behind schedule.
With the completion of the construction, lane separators, lining, traffic lights, and other works have also been completed. Once the overpass is operational, it is expected that vehicle movement will be smooth on the Satdobato-Koteshwor Ring Road section and the Mangalbazar-Imadol-Lubhu road section.
