Hundreds Of American Citizens Flee Iran As Iran-Israel Tensions Rise

Jun 21, Kathmandu - An internal US State Department report has revealed that hundreds of American citizens have left Iran amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel.

A situation report released Friday, as President Donald Trump mulls possible military action, suggests that American citizens in Iran are at risk.

The State Department does not require its citizens abroad to register, so it is not clear how many Americans are in Iran. While Israel has arranged for evacuations and alternative transportation for American citizens, there are no such options in Iran. The United States does not have a diplomatic presence in Iran, so it is difficult to evacuate its citizens from there.

“We have no immediate plans to provide direct U.S. government assistance from Iran,” State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said at a news conference Friday. The report noted that some American citizens are struggling to leave Iran. The situation has raised concerns that Americans in Iran could be in even greater danger.
