Jun 24, Kathmandu - Donald Trump returned to power in January of this year, calling himself a “peacemaker.” But now he has embroiled the United States in a complex conflict between Iran and Israel.
Since taking office, Trump has failed to bring peace to the Middle East. He is now leading a region on the brink of a major war, in which the United States is an active participant.
Two hours after the US attack on Iran, he addressed the nation from the White House. In his address, Trump even called the operation a "huge success".
He expressed hope that “this step (attack) will pave the way for a lasting peace, where Iran will not have the possibility of becoming a nuclear power.” However, Iran has said that only minor damage was caused to its Fordow nuclear site.
Time will tell who is right now.
Standing alongside US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump warned Iran that future attacks would be “very destructive and very easy” if it did not abandon its nuclear program.
Trump added, “There are many targets left and the United States will strike them with speed, precision and skill”.
Despite the president’s conviction, continuing US military intervention in Iran could be the most dangerous scenario for the US, the Middle East and the entire world.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that the US decision could lead to “a series of chaos” if the conflict escalates at a time when the Middle East is already at a “crisis of tension.”
Trump’s calculation is that whatever retaliation Iran may retaliate against, it can be stopped.
