Israelis Are Taking Shelter Underground As The Conflict Escalates

Jun 24, Kathmandu - Tel Aviv residents have been forced to seek shelter in underground parking lots as the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel escalates, forcing residents to seek safety in underground shelters to escape a wave of missile attacks in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

A few hours after the United States attacked its nuclear sites on Sunday, Iran launched another missile attack against Israel. At least 86 people were injured in the attack, according to Israel's Health Ministry.

The underground parking lot of a shopping mall in Tel Aviv, one of Israel's largest cities, has been converted into a temporary shelter. Equipped with tents, sleeping mats and minimal supplies, the shelter will keep residents awake during a missile attack.

“Everything happened on Monday night, five days ago, because on Monday night there was a big missile strike very close to Pinsker Street. And a lot of people who live here are very scared of what’s happening in Tel Aviv and central Tel Aviv and all that. We got pictures of a lot of these parking lots that were turned into shelters. This shelter has protected about 1,000 locals from the missile attack that happened on Tuesday”, said Ephraim, a refugee.

"There is danger outside because of the Iranian attack. So my flat is also unsafe, so I decided to stay here in this difficult situation to avoid it. I feel more comfortable here because it is a safe place. However, it is an underground parking lot and here we have many people who help each other," said local resident Marina.
