Minimum Wages For Nepali Workers In UAE Exceeds 1,000 Dirhams

Jun 24, Kathmandu - The government has implemented a decision to set the minimum wage for Nepali workers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at 1,000 dirhams or higher.

According to a notice published in the Gazette on Monday, manpower companies will no longer be allowed to send workers to the UAE at a salary lower than the specified one.

The government had decided to increase the minimum wage in last Jestha. The decision came into effect as soon as it was published in the gazette.

Now, the government will not verify the demand letter received for facilities of 1 thousand dirhams or less. Earlier, the minimum wage for unskilled workers in the UAE was fixed at 800 dirhams. According to the new wage scale, the minimum wage for unskilled workers should be 1 thousand dirhams, monthly food expenses should be 400 dirhams or more, making a total of 1 thousand 400 or more.

In the case of semi-skilled workers, the minimum wage should be 1,200 or above, and the food cost should be 400 dirhams, making a total of 1,600 or above.

Similarly, in the case of skilled workers, the minimum wage should be 1,500 dirhams, and the food cost should be 400 or above, making a total of 1,900 dirhams.

In the case of highly skilled workers, the minimum wage should be 6,000 or above. The notice also states that the food cost should be 400 plus 6,400 or above.
