Jun 26, Kathmandu - Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Pandey has said that yoga education should be taken to schools across the country. Inaugurating the ‘School Yoga Education’ and ‘School Teacher Central Yoga Motivator’ training organized at Adarsh Secondary School in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur today, he opined that yoga education should be taken to the school level as it is an effective method from the perspective of health.
Minister Pandey said that the school yoga program started in Bhaktapur should be expanded to all 77 districts and teachers, students and youth should be focused on yoga. He said, "It is necessary to bring the youth power of Nepal to yoga. In the next 15 years, youth across the country will engage in yoga practice. With the knowledge and meditation of yoga, peace can be established first in the family, society, country and the world. Yoga is necessary for every person as it has a positive impact on human health. This campaign starts from Nepal now."
Pointing out the need to advance yoga practice by establishing a balance between the physical and the immaterial, he said that it is necessary to spread yoga to take human civilization on the right path. He believes that a prosperous society can be built if the balance between religious knowledge and science can be achieved by connecting the mind and body.
Krishna Prasad Kapri, Director General of the Education and Human Resource Development Center, and Bharatmani Pandey, Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, among others, emphasized the need to take yoga forward by making it school-centered. Nawaraj Kafle, Program Coordinator and Yoga District Coordination Committee, informed that 60 teachers from across the district are participating in the yoga training for teachers, which will be conducted till 5 pm today.
Institutional school administrators expressed dissatisfaction, citing reasons such as not including all community schools in the yoga training program, discrimination by the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Bhaktapur, exclusion of umbrella organizations and schools of institutional schools, and misuse of budget.
