Jun 26, Kathmandu - 272 Indian nationals, including three Nepalis stranded in conflict-torn Iran's Mashhad, have arrived in India. A special flight carrying Nepali and Indian nationals landed safely in New Delhi late last night (Wednesday).
The total number of people rescued under ‘Operation Indus’ has reached 3,426. The displaced thanked the Iranian and Indian governments for rescuing them from conflict-torn Iran under Operation Indus.
Speaking to ANI, an Indian rescuer who returned from Iran said, "I thank my government, especially the Prime Minister. We have arrived without facing any difficulties. Both the Iranian and Indian governments have behaved very well."
Another rescuer said, "We are grateful to the government for bringing us back. If the situation had worsened there, it would have been difficult to return."
Operation Sindh was launched amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. Meanwhile, Nepal had urged the Indian government to rescue its citizens. Foreign Minister Arzu Rana had requested the rescue of 16 Nepalis in Iran.
Seven Nepalis who were stranded at the Mashhad International Airport on Wednesday were also rescued, but were turned back by the immigration authorities on Tuesday for not having exit permits.
