Investigation Underway into Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad, Suspected Sabotage Considered

Jun 29, Kathmandu - NDTV quoted Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol as saying that an investigation is underway into the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, earlier this month, which also involved suspected sabotage.

Air India Flight AI 171, a 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft en route to London, crashed seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:30 pm on June 12.

Out of 242 people on board, only one person survived, while several people on the ground also died.

Speaking to Indian news agency NDTV at the ‘Emerging Business Conclave’ event in Pune, Minister of State Moho said, “This is a very tragic incident. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has already started an investigation into the accident. Investigations are being carried out from all angles, including the possibility of sabotage.”

He added, “CCTV footage is being studied and various agencies are conducting a detailed study of the incident.”

The plane’s black box has been found and data from the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder inside it has also been downloaded.
