Landslide in Uttarakhand: 9 workers missing

Jun 29, Kathmandu - Monsoon rains continue in most parts of India. Uttarakhand has been experiencing heavy rains since Saturday. Nine workers have gone missing after a landslide hit a labor camp near Silai Bund in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

Following the incident, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for the next 24 hours. Passengers have been ordered to stop at Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag and Bikash Nagar.

According to officials, the landslide occurred in the Silai Bandh area near the Yamunotri National Highway. At that time, there were 19 workers in the camp, of whom 10 have been safely shifted, while search operations are underway for 9 others.

The State Disaster Management Authority has informed that it received information about heavy rain at around 2:12 am on Sunday morning and then a joint team from the District Emergency Operations Center was mobilized to the scene.

Among the missing workers are Dujellal (55), Keval Thapa (43), Roshan Chaudhary (40), Vimala Rani (36), Kalluram Chaudhary (55), Bobby (38), Chotu (22), Priyansh (20) and Manish Dhami (40).

According to initial information, they were workers working for a hotel under construction in the area. Rescue work is currently underway at a rapid pace. The Saryu River in Bageshwar has crossed the danger mark in the area. The Alaknanda and Saraswati rivers are also flowing above the danger mark.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, this time the monsoon has spread across the country 9 days ahead of schedule. A rain alert has been issued across the country today.
