Amendments To Martial Law Regulations In South Korea

Jul 03, Kathmandu - South Korean lawmakers have voted to amend martial law regulations. Under the new law, no one can stop lawmakers from entering the National Assembly.

The amendment passed on Thursday also prohibits the military and police from entering the National Assembly. They will now need the speaker’s permission to enter.

In December last year, former President Yoon Suk-yeol briefly imposed martial law in the country. Lawmakers had to cross the border to vote against it.

Due to political unrest, Yoon Suk-yeol imposed martial law on December 3, 2024. After this, military forces surrounded the National Assembly that night.
