Hearing In Corruption Case Against Former Minister Badri Neupane Being Held Today

Jul 04, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on the corruption case against former minister Badri Neupane for Friday. The hearing will be held before a joint bench of Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal.

Former Minister Neupane was earlier found guilty in a corruption case by a special court. Ruling on a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the Commission had sentenced Neupane to 9 years in prison, a fine of Rs 24.368 million, and a fine of the same amount.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had claimed that Neupane had committed corruption by renting out a fun park at Bhrikutimandap at a cheap rate while he was the Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare.

Along with Neupane, the CIAA had filed a case in the special court against former Congress minister Tek Bahadur Gurung, then vice-chairman of the Social Welfare Council Pramod Mehta, then treasurer Kunj Bihari Prasad Chaudhary, and others.

Dissatisfied with the special court's verdict, both parties have filed an appeal in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is hearing this case for the first time.
