US House Passes Tax And Spending Bill

Jul 04, Kathmandu - The US House of Representatives has passed a comprehensive tax and spending bill proposed by President Donald Trump. The tax and spending bill is considered one of the main agenda items of Trump's second term.

The House of Representatives, the lower house, passed the bill after a long debate on Capitol Hill. According to the BBC, there were 218 votes in favor of the bill and 214 votes against it.

The US Congress has two houses. The upper house is the Senate and the lower house is the House of Representatives. It has been analyzed that President Trump has won a significant victory with the lower house passing the tax and spending bill.

Earlier on Tuesday, the upper house Senate had passed this bill with a difference of only one vote. Trump had given a deadline of today to pass the bill immediately to the Republican-majority Congress and send it for final approval. The bill seeks to cut spending by cutting food aid and health care subsidies and clean energy projects. In the lower house, Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries delayed the bill's passage by delivering the longest speech in the history of the House. He spoke for 8 hours and 45 minutes. Jeffries said the law would hurt poor Americans.
