Jul 04, Kathmandu - Iran will continue to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN body, its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
Despite a resolution passed by the Iranian parliament to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, Araghchi said cooperation would continue through the National Security Council.
Iran believes that Israel killed Iranian nuclear scientists based on information provided by the IAEA, which is why it has decided not to cooperate with the IAEA.
Araghchi also said Iran is committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Safeguards Agreement, which prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. Iran signed a safeguards agreement with the IAEA to build confidence in its peaceful nuclear program.
There was a war between Iran and Israel for 12 days in June. 935 Iranians and 30 Israelis were killed.
UN nuclear inspectors were in Iran throughout the war, but they were not allowed to visit the nuclear facility. Concerns have been raised about where Iran may have stored its highly enriched uranium stockpile, as inspectors have not been able to see it.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council is a 13-member body. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appoints members. The president, speaker of parliament, chief justice, and foreign minister are its members.
The US Department of Defense has said that the nuclear program has been pushed back by one to two years after the US bombed Iran's nuclear facility.
