Jul 06, Kathmandu - Tribhuvan Army Club, the departmental team of the Nepal Army, has won the title of the first hockey '5-a-side' National Women's Championship organized by the Nepal Hockey Association. In the competition held in Madhyapur Thimi on Saturday, Tribhuvan Army Club of the Nepal Army defeated Sudurpaschim Province by 2-0 goals to clinch the title.
The winning team of the competition, Army, received 50,000 rupees. The runner-up, Sudurpaschim Province, received 25,000 rupees.
Bagmati's Sapna Syangbo won the title of the emerging player of the tournament. Similarly, in the individual category, Army's Saraswati Tamang was named the best player, Sudurpaschim's Purnima Negi was named the best defender, Army's keeper Kushmarana Magar was named the best goal scorer, and Sudurpaschim's Ashika SK was named the top scorer.
Six teams from Far Western Province, Bagmati Province, Koshi Province, Madhes Province, Gandaki Province, and the Army's Tribhuvan Army Club participated in the competition, organized for the first time in Nepal under the '5-a-side' format.
The tournament was inaugurated by National Sports Council Vice-Chairman Dhruv Acharya. At the closing ceremony, National Sports Council Member Secretary Tankalal Ghising, Nepal Hockey Association President Anil Sharma, and Hockey Association General Secretary Subarna Shrestha presented awards to the best players and the champion team.
