Jul 11, Kathmandu - Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba returned home today after participating in the 44th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the high-level ministerial conference organized in Rome, Italy.
Minister Dr. Rana also addressed the main session of the FAO Conference held from June 28 to July 4, as well as other high-level meetings and programs organized in the same vein.
In her address, she informed that Nepal has provided the right to food as a fundamental right of the citizen and other necessary laws have provided the basis for its implementation and realization.
Minister Dr. Rana also said that Nepal has been ensuring safe and quality food through regulatory standards, laboratory monitoring and consumer protection through the Food Safety and Quality Control Policy.
Minister Dr. Rana, while expressing her views on the right to food and nutrition in Least Developed Countries, Small Island Countries and Landlocked States, drew the attention of the world community to the fact that countries including Nepal are bearing the brunt of climate change.
She also demanded that grants be provided in sustainable agricultural systems and climate finance for mountainous regions in Nepal and other countries with landlocked regions. Dr. Rana urged to ensure grant-based international climate finance for Nepal, especially its mountainous regions, which are suffering from climate change.
