Aug 29, Kathmandu - Three municipalities in Dang have decided to declare a public holiday on Bhadra 15. Lamahi Municipality, Rapti Rural Municipality and Gadhawa Rural Municipality in the Deukhuri Valley of Dang have issued a notice stating that they have declared a public holiday on Bhadra 15 as it is the Atwari festival of the Tharu community.
Lamahi Municipality Mayor Jograj Chaudhary informed that since the Tharu community's Barka Atwari falls on Bhadra 15, two days of leave have been granted on that day and Bhadra 16.
He said that Lamahi Municipality has granted two days of public leave as the first day is for fasting and the second day is for giving alms to married girls.
Atwari is celebrated for two days every year in Dang. Earlier, the Tharu community in Dang Valley, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces celebrated the Atwari festival on Bhadra 8. The Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Province governments had declared Bhadra 8 as a public holiday for the Atwari festival.
