Jun 08, Kathmandu - Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in North Korea for a state visit. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol-ju welcomed President Xi.

Video footage released by China's state media CCTV shows Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol-ju smiling and clapping as they welcome the Chinese president. The video shows a red carpet laid out at the airport and North Korean troops lined up on either side.

However, President Xi and his entourage are not shown in the CCTV clip. Another Chinese news agency, Xinhua, reported separately that Kim Jong Un and Xi Jinping shook hands and that North Korean children presented flowers to President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan.

Neither Chinese nor North Korean state media have released details about the current discussions between the two countries' top leaders. More updates regarding the visit are continuing to arrive.
