Nepal’s Foreign Minister Highlights Border Disputes with China, Emphasizes Need for Increased Vigilance

Jun 18, Kathmandu - In a statement made during the parliamentary budget session, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal revealed that Nepal has limited yet ongoing border disputes with China.

The Minister made his remarks on Thursday, the day after returning from a four-day official visit to China, while responding to questions related to the ministry’s budget in the House of Representatives.

“There's significant work to be done at the eastern, western, and southern borders. We are already working on that. However, activity at the northern border has been relatively low, but due to the need to allocate funds under our budget for that area, a placeholder budget has been set aside. Disputes exist along our limited border areas with China,” said Minister Khanal.

He further explained that, similar to the active border work currently ongoing with India, there has been less activity at the northern border with China.
