Jun 25, Kathmandu - The impact of the heatwave persists across the western Terai regions of Nepal, with the Nepal Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting the continuation of high temperatures today in parts of Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces.

Spokesperson Bibhuti Pokharel urged residents in Gandaki and Lumbini Terai areas to exercise caution, as extreme heat could adversely affect public health.

According to the weather forecast, today’s maximum temperatures are expected to reach between 38°C to 40°C in Dhangadhi and 39°C to 41°C in Nepalgunj. Temperatures in Birgunj, Biratnagar, Gorahi, and Simara are predicted to hover around 35°C to 38°C.

Meanwhile, the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces may experience scattered to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms. Cities such as Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Taplejung are also likely to see rainfall. Today, Kathmandu’s maximum temperature is forecasted to be between 28°C and 30°C.

The department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay well-hydrated, wear light and cotton clothing, and pay special attention to children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. Climate experts note that due to climate change, the duration and intensity of heatwaves in Nepal’s Terai have increased in recent years, directly impacting health, agriculture, and daily life.
